Delaware brewery Dogfish Head, no stranger to experimental brews, has released Mixed Media a beer/wine hybrid brewed with grapes.

 

The mixed up beer is fermented with 49% grapes and 51% grain, making it legally the closest a beer can be to wine. The grapes are a late harvest Viognier variety and come from Alexandria Nicole Cellars in Washington. The finished product clocks in at about 7.5% ABV and has an overall flavor of white grape, melon and crisp white wine.

 

“By blending the two seemingly opposite worlds of beer and wine together we’ve discovered that they collide quite nicely, and the combination of the two adds an additional thread of flavor and a layer of complexity to the mix,” said Sam Calagione, Dogfish founder and CEO in a press release. “Our newest spin, Mixed Media, is perfect for wine drinkers who are at beer drinking occasions or folks that enjoy a crisp, light Pinot Gris.”
