Dock Street Brewing is Opening its Second Brewery in South Philly
Dock Street Brewery, Philadelphia’s oldest brewing company, is opening a new production facility and taproom in a former tile warehouse at 21st and Washington Avenue in South Philly.
The Dock Street team plans on moving their recently debuted canning operation that is currently housed in a former firehouse behind the brewpub to the much larger South Philly space. The expansion will enable Dock Street to almost quadruple their production capacity from 2,000 barrels a year to 9,000 barrels. The move will help increase distribution of the beer in PA and NJ where it is currently sold.
Rosemarie Certo, the president and co-founder of the brewery, told Philly.com that she hopes the offshoot brewery will help revitalize the neighborhood as their current outpost has helped the neighborhood around their 50th and Baltimore Avenue location glow.
“It’s an area that’s ripe for innovation and rebirth,” Rosemarie told Philly.com. “It all kind of goes hand in hand.”
