Philly's Best Happy Hours: Red Owl Tavern's Later Happy Hour from 7-9 PM, $6 Wines, $5 Beers, & Half-Priced Snacks

Welcome to Philly’s Best Happy Hours, a feature highlighting great happy hours in different neighborhoods throughout Philadelphia. Since Drink Philly started out as a place to find happy hours in the city, we thought it was only right to return to our roots and turn the spotlight on some of Philly’s absolute best happy hour deals.

This time, we're highlighting Red Owl Tavern, which sits adjacent to Old City's Hotel Monaco and features picturesque views of Independence Mall. With two stories, an imaginative seasonal cocktail program, and a modern American menu, Red Owl has something for everyone.

Recently, they expanded their seating area and added a new high-top table as well as a bar rail, so you can enjoy your drink with a direct view of Independence Hall itself.

Their happy hour is particularly unique in that it's slightly later than any other happy hour in the area — every Monday through Friday from 7 PM - 9 PM, enjoy specials on wines, beers, appetizers, and more.

The star of Red Owl's rotating draft list, the Red Owl Tavern Pale Ale (made in conjunction with local brewery St. Benjamin's), is unique to the restaurant, and it's just $5 during happy hour, and local and imported beers that range from pale ales to stouts are the same price.

They also offer two house wines for just $6 apiece — the Red Owl Tavern Cabernet Sauvignon and the Eleventh Floor Chardonnay (named for Stratus, the bar's chic rooftop lounge), which are both exclusive to the bar as well.

If you're hungry, Red Owl has you covered with a list of half-priced snacks, all of which are also featured on their regular menu.

Signature items like their smoked salmon dip go for just $6 (normally $12) during happy hour, as well as their classic crab & corn fritters, which you can try for just $6.50 (normally $13).

For a lighter snack, try the poached pear toast with greens for $7 (normally $14), or for a classic bar snack, order their beer braised wings with homemade ranch for $6.50 (normally $13).

Though there are no cocktails on their happy hour menu, you can still try cocktails from their inventive bar program. Their Ruby Sunrise, which features Hangar One Vodka, grapefruit, pomegranate, rose water, and sparkling rosé, is just $12.

If you're in the mood for a bold, spirit-forward drink, try the Ristretto Negroni ($14), made with Edinburg Gin, Campari, Aperol, and sweet vermouth, which is slow dripped through espresso grinds.

They also offer a featured punch all day, every day for just $10, which rotates based on availability.

Whether you get out of work a little later or just want to keep happy hour going, stop by Red Owl Tavern on weekday evenings for great specials, unique hours, and outstanding cocktails.
