Workhorse Brewing Launches New Taproom in Spread Bagelry at 24th & Walnut

by Drink Philly on Oct 1, 2019 in Beer

King of Prussia staple Workhorse Brewing has launched its first Philadelphia location in collaboration with Spread Bagelry, combining a taproom with a bagel spot at 24th & Walnut.

The 8,000 square foot space overlooking the Schuykill River banks houses both a Spread Bagelry location and the first Center City location for Workhorse, a local brewery with a home by the King of Prussia mall.

On nice days, enjoy their outdoor patio, which provides great views of University City and the river, or post up at the 40 foot Workhorse bar.

Founded by Dan Hershberg in 2018, Workhorse's mantra is that "without quality, there cannot be growth," and when you try any of their beers, from their Vienna Lager to their Helles, you'll understand their ethos perfectly.

"There are very few slam-dunk opportunities in entrepreneurship. It's far more frequent to find a compelling reason not to do something. In our case, finding a prime location featuring an outdoor patio was great, but doing so with an established operator like Spread qualified as the rare 'no-brainer.' We couldn't be more thrilled to join forces with a top-notch partner like Spread as we grow our brand in Philadelphia," said Hershberg.

The beers pair perfectly with snacks and bagels from Spread, which has continued expanding since it opened its flagship store in Rittenhouse Square. On weekends, the two spots team up to offer a special brunch menu complete with morning-appropriate cocktails and breakfast items.

“We are very proud to welcome Workhorse Brewing into center city and our awesome Spreadquarters,” said Larry Rosenblum, Founder of Spread Bagelry. “They make incredibly fresh and exciting beers which pair great with our bagels and new taproom menu! Together, it’s a really unique and delicious experience that customers can enjoy while overlooking the river.”

During the afternoons, you can nosh on their bar fare, which includes flatbreads and snacks like everything bagel-seasoned pigs in a blanket.

The brewery will also offer seasonal beers, cans to go, and even smaller versions of their cans, called "Flights to Go."

Spread Bagelry is open at 7 AM every single day, and the taproom will be open from 11 AM to 10 PM on Monday through Friday, 10 AM to 10 PM on Saturday, and 10 AM - 9 PM on Sunday.
