Dogfish Head Aprihop
For caravans of antiquity, the apricot was a delicacy worth enduring the rugged journey on the silk trail to Damascus. Today, the Philadelphia beer aficionado can enjoy an equally exotic import from Delaware, in Dogfish Head's Aprihop. For those who enjoy their IPAs bursting with citrusy hops, Aprihop offers a unique twist with the addition of apricots, shifting the citrus character from the common grapefruit rind hop flavor to a juicy orange or peach. Ironically, the fruit's sugars seem to work with the brewing yeast to dry out the sweet malts associated with Dogfish Head's flagship 60 and 90 Minute IPAs. The subtlety of the apricot presence makes this an excellent offering even for those who don't usually take to fruited beers. Enjoy Aprihop this spring by the bottle or on tap, preceded or not by a month-long traverse through the desert.
