In odd news, Danish brewery Carlsberg has banned consumption of its beer by workers outside of lunch. It formerly had beer coolers, which sounds pretty sweet, in the plant. Workers could drink beer all day, as long as they did not drink to inebriation. For some reason, Carlsberg is no longer happy with this arrangement, and went as far as removing the beer coolers from the premises.

This has workers in a tizzy, and 800 went on strike beginning last Wednesday, 250 walking off the job. Beer transportation was interrupted in Copenhagen as a result, since Carlsberg's truck drivers went on strike too, even though the policy does not apply to them. Since they often don't have time for lunch, they can take three beers for the day. Breathalyzer ignition locks prevent them from drunk driving.

Drivers protested in a show of solidarity, which we don't see often. Workers say they were not consulted on the changes, and have not had problems with intoxication or accidents on the job. No word yet from Carlsberg on its reasons for the new policy.
