Booze in Review, 9/17-9/24

Torrential downpours and humid air couldn’t stop the arrival of autumn, and the time of Oktoberfests and pumpkin ales is officially here. Sports is in prime season as well, as the Phillies look to the post-season and the Eagles try to start theirs off on a positive note. On our end, we’re excited to have launched our new platform, in prep for The Drink Nation and our sister sites in Baltimore and DC. Here’s what we took a look at this week at Drink Philly.

Chick Beer: Hot or Not? – pink, frilly and unabashedly marketed to women. But does it taste good?
New Phillies Cocktail: The Clincher – in honor of the Phillies’ post-season berth, a new drink made with XXX Shine Whiskey
Smoke It Up at Yards – the rain didn’t stop this one-of-a-kind rauchbierfest at Yards Brewing
Hipp-O-Lantern: River Horse Brewing’s Spicy Ale – Mike reviews the New Jersey brewery’s pumpkin beer
Brews for Boobies: Great Beer for a Great Cause – there’s still time to register for this Oct 8 pub crawl to support breast cancer awareness
National Punch Day – did you know the name of this party favorite comes from the Hindi word for “five”?
Davio’s: Free Wednesday Night Event Series & More – the Rittenhouse steakhouse is stepping up their drinks game
Music Madness on Saturday – In the afternoon: Riotfest, and in the evening: Hoots & Hellmouth
Gulps, Vines & Bier – 3 new happy hours at Marathon, Tria Wine Room and Frankford Hall
Weekend Picks – plenty to do this weekend, from music festivals to Oktoberfests and more
The Republican Primary Debate Drinking Game – how to have fun while keeping up with politics (bookmark it, there’s nine more debates to come)
Drink Philly to Launch the Drink Nation – we’re thrilled to announce our national site about drinking culture, plus our expansion to DC and Baltimore
Mighty Margaritas at El Camino Real – Laura loves the Tex-Mex happy hour at this NoLibs watering hole
Fall Garden Festival: Yards Beer Garden & Salsa  Competition – the Philadelphia Horticultural Society (those of the famed Philadelphia Flower Show) throw their fall festival with a beer garden
Video: Summer Ale Festival at the Philadelphia Zoo – watch the video from this mid-summer beer extravaganza among the animals
Gameday Bar Specials – Are you ready for some football!? Our guide to food & drink specials around town (updated often)
