What Will You Drink for International Stout Day, Nov 3?
In the vein of this summer’s successful International IPA Day comes the cool-weather version: International Stout Day. On Thursday, November 3, dark brew fans across the world will raise glasses in stout solidarity, and several breweries and venues will be running specials to accompany this soon-to-be-famous holiday. Untappd has even created a special edition badge for the day.
This event comes from the beer-soaked mind of The Beer Goddess (a.k.a. Erin Peters), who told Hop & Kettle, “Simply put, I love stout. It’s not an easy or simple beer... it’s a handsome beer. The pairing possibilities are boundless, and it goes so very nicely with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It also has a really interesting history – starting with river porters of London. Some high ABV stouts are also superb to age for a while.”
So far, the only officially listed event in all of Pennsylvania is in Harrisburg, at O'Reilly's Irish Pub. Sly Fox is also commemorating the day at their Phoenixville and Royersford locations. We're holding out hope that more Philadelphia-area bars will participate. Whether you prefer to soothe your throat and warm your tummy with an oyster stout, milk stout, oatmeal stout, coffee stout or porter, get ready to celebrate with a deep, roasty sip. What’s your favorite dark beer?
