Rum Bar: New Holiday Cocktails, More Beer & Wine and New Year's Eve
It’s a busy time of year for tropics-themed Rum Bar, and proprietor Adam Kanter is stepping up his game. A series of cane-spirit holiday cocktails have been introduced, full of festive winter herbs and spices. For example, the Red Hot Daiquiri is sure to warm you up, with its dash of cayenne pepper sparking the mix of Bacardi, Montecristo Spiced Rum, lime, grenadine and cinnamon. Or try the Gingerbread Martini, an updated take on egg nog made with molasses, Canton Ginger liqueur, vanilla, Art in the Age Snap and El Dorado Rum Cream.
If mixed drinks won’t melt your chilled soul, take heart: Kanter recently expanded both the wine and beer programs at the Rittenhouse tiki stop. There are now 11 wines on offer, all from South America, and all available by glass ($6–$10) or bottle ($26–$42). The beer list now sports 27 craft brews from all over the world, including nearly a dozen from the Caribbean, alongside local faves like Victory and Yards. There’s also a special Rum Barrel Lager – a mix of house lager and rum.
You can take advantage of all this bounty on New Year’s Eve: arrive after 9 PM on December 31 and a low $10 cover includes party favors and a Champagne toast at midnight. At 10 PM, you trade $40 for access to an all-you-can-drink open bar, including top shelf selections. The tables and chairs will be moved aside for the night, giving party-goers ample space to ring in 2012 in style.
