Beer Reviews of 2011

So many beers, so little time! While we’re looking back over the year, we’ve rounded up some of our best beer reviews. Did we pick one of your favorites?

Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier Marzen: The prototypical smoked beer is still brewed in the same historical tavern it has been for centuries.

Allagash White: Perhaps the most classic American example of its style, this wheat beer is clean and citrusy.

AleSmith Speedway Stout: Creamy, roasty coffee flavors fill this stout, available in 750-mL bottles.

Birra del Borgo Duchessic Ale: Italians are finally getting into the craft beer scene, and doing it well.

Cigar City White Oak Aged Jai Alai IPA: It’s rare to age IPAs on wood, but it comes off to great effect.

De Struise Brouwers Pannepot: This dark Belgian is pretty darn near close to perfect.

Dogfish Head Punkin Ale: The Delaware brewery gets this seasonal right.

Founders Backwoods Bastard: This November-only release is the barrel-aged cousin of year-round favorite Dirty Bastard.

Harpoon Winter Warmer: Introduced in 1988, this was one of the first craft seasonals around, and it’s still great.

Left Hand Brewing Fade to Black Vol. 3: Smoke meets chocolate meets pepper in this uniquely flavored porter.

River Horse Brewing Hipp-O-Lantern: For a pumpkin ale, this 9% ABV brew is easy-drinking, though still flavorful.

Ruckus Brewing Hoptimus Prime: This crisp double IPA that packs a clean, hoppy punch.

Troegs Mad Elf: There’s a reason this Christmas beer is so legendary: it’s delicious.

Unibroue Terrible: The name belies the elegant, mellow aged flavor of this big-bottle brew.

Victory Moonglow Weizenbock: Victory’s take on the dark amber German brew is fruit-tinged and nutty.

Weyerbacher Blasphemy Ale: Barrel-aging helps soften the high alcohol blast of this tasty quadrupel.

Weyerbacher Imperial Pumpkin Ale: Spicy but not overwhelming, this is a refreshing take on the ubiquitous fall style.
