International IPA Day
Today marks the 1st International IPA Day (hashtag #IPADay on Twitter). Unlike many of the other new, flimsy drinking "holidays" that seem to spawn on whims each year, an impressive amount of planning went into the organization of IPA Day. According to popular beer blogger and one of the main organizers, Beer Wench, ten craft breweries got together a month ago to agree on the day and start buzz that has quickly turned into a roar over the past few days.
Don't feel like you need an arbitrary holiday to tell you when to drink an IPA? That's perfectly reasonable and fair but the excitement generated by the event can only be good for craft beer and will likely introduce our favorite hoppy beverage to new drinkers. At least one event in the Philadelphia area has been organized by Isaac Newton's, the tremendous beer bar in Newtown. They will be tapping 21st Amendment Hop Crisis, Long Trail Double IPA, Yards Cape of Good Hope and many other IPAs throughout the day.
If you plan on "attending" the event, RSVP on Facebook. For more information on the organization of the day, take a look at Beer Wench's website.
