Frankford Hall Oktoberfest Festbeer Challenge, September 27
As part of its two-week-long Oktoberfest celebration, Frankford Hall is hosting a Festbeer Challenge on Thursday, September 27. Three American and three German festbiers will go head to head, competing for title of best Oktoberfest beer. And there’s a big prize for the winner: a spot on the Frankford Hall tap lineup for the entire year.
From 7–9 PM, head to the Fishtown beer garden to watch the competition and do some judging on your own, as beer reps from all the participating breweries will be on site to provide samples and answer questions about the brews.
Joining our own Adam Schmidt and Danya Henninger on the judging panel will be Collin Flatt of Eater and Michael Naessens of Eulogy, Bierstube and Beneluxx.
The panel will be using the official American Homebrewers Association form to rate the beers, which asks judges to rate and describe characteristics such as aroma, appearance, flavor and — yes — mouthfeel, as well as choose from descriptors like “metallic,” “grassy,” “astringent” and “vegetal.”
There’s no cover charge to attend, and in addition to samples, beer will be pay as you go, including Stoudt’s Oktoberfest, which is on special for $4 per half liter and $8 per liter during the entire two week festivities. See you there!
