Independence Day: Where to Celebrate July 4th in Philadelphia

As birthplace of our nation, Philadelphia is a fantastic place to celebrate America’s birthday. Here’s where to drink, eat and party to celebrate July 4th this year. Happy Independence Day!

Philadelphia Orchestra Concert and Fireworks
8 PM, Tuesday, July 2
RiverStage and the Great Plaza (Penn’s Landing, 101 S. Columbus Blvd.)
The orchestra presents a totally free concert on the waterfront, followed by the first fireworks of the year. A perfect post-happy-hour or pre-dinner activity.

Party on the Parkway
Noon–7 PM, Thursday, July 4
Benjamin Franklin Parkway (20th Street to Eakins Oval)
The Parkway will be closed to traffic and food trucks, drink vendors, music and games will take over.

Fourth of July Jam and Fireworks
7–11 PM, Thursday, July 4
Benjamin Franklin Parkway (20th Street to Eakins Oval)
The party really gets started as The Roots return to lead the “largest free concert in America” with an all-star roster of musical talent and a grand finale fireworks show over the Philadelphia Museum of Art.

Garden Variety Party With Spodee and Little Baby’s
4–8 PM, Thursday, July 4; $5
Garden Variety (2nd and Poplar Streets)
Pay your $5 at the door to get into this Northern Liberties garden and score free Spodee and Narragansett drinks all night. Pair the drinks with pay-as-you-go food from Little Baby’s Ice Cream and Dapper Dog. Games and music are also promised.

Pork of July at Standard Tap
Thursday–Sunday, July 4–7

It’s a celebration of everything pork at this Northern Liberties gastropub, including the drinks. Pork-belly-garnished micheladas will be $5 and porked-up Bloody Marys are $7. Local American Pale Ales will go for $5 per pint, or get a $15 pitcher with two free hot dogs.

McCrossen’s Picnic Menu

Enjoy $5 local drafts all day at this Fairmount pub, along with a special picnic menu featuring a Creekstone Farms burger, Jersey tomato salad, corn on the cob, BBQ ribs and more.

The South Street BBQ joint opens early at 11:30 AM, and is running two beer cocktail specials all day: Pineapple Shandy ($5) and Hilbilly Gatorade ($3). Also look for a $12 burger-and-beer specials and $3 fried biscuits with strawberry-rhubarb jam.

All weekend you can hit up this Graduate Hospital tavern and score a pint of The Cool Breeze — Jeremiah sweet tea vodka, lemon juice and mint simple syrup — for just $8.

Beer Floats at Old Eagle Tavern

The Manayunk bar has a new menu of beer floats, and on Independence Day they’re all $1 off. Look for Raspberries & Cream with Lindeman's Framboise, Black & Blue with Dark Horse Tres Blueberry Stout and Holiday Cheer with SlyFox Christmas Ale.

On July 4 itself, new Wash West American bistro is offering a $5 cocktail: the Treaty of Paris, made with honeydew and St. Germain. Throughout the weekend, starting at 4 PM each day, you can get a one-pound steamed lobster with summer salad for just $17.76.

Fourth Annual Lucky 13 Cookout

For the fourth year in a row, you can spend July 4 outside this East Passyunk pub and enjoy fresh-grilled burgers and hot dogs along with summer drink specials.

Head out to Fishtown this weekend and sip on a Raspberry Hibiscus Cooler (Ketel One Citroen, simple syrup, fresh lemon juice) for $8 per pint.

Make a reservation at this French bistro overlooking the Schuylkill and get a beer and glass of wine with either a hummus and veggie plate or a Parmesan chicken risotto plate for just $20, including both tax and gratuity. There’s also a $38 three-course menu options.

This South Philly bar is extending its range beyond craft beer and has a new menu of summer cocktails. They’re all $1 off for the entire holiday weekend.

Veterans Discount at South Philly Bar & Grill

All veterans and active military personnel will get a 20% discount on the patriotic holiday at this East Passyunk bar, and everyone gets to have $2.50 bottles of Bud and Bud Light.

Yards Country & 'Cue Celebration

Three food items and three beers are included in your ticket price for the country music party at the brewery by the river. Look for Spot Burger, Guerrilla Ultima and Braz. B.Q. food trucks and sip on a full array of Yards brews.

Serrano Street Fare

The Old City bar has a new chef, and for the holiday Gina Rodriguez is offering a special “street fare” menu of 8–10 grab-and-go food items, as well as a slew of drink specials. Look for discounts on sangria, adult Agua Fresca and a Yards tap takeover.

Taste of Philadelphia
Noon–10 PM, Friday–Saturday and Noon–3 PM, Sunday
Penn's Landing (Columbus Blvd.)
Food trucks and vendors take over the Delaware River waterfront at this three-day festival with live muis and entertainment. Saturday night features the last July 4th fireworks show of the year.
