Crowlers Hit the South Jersey Market

Crowlers Hit the South Jersey Market

You’ve heard of growlers before, but how about a Crowler? This new and improved way to enjoy hard-to-find beers has become a hot new trend in the craft beer world, and now it’s made its way into South Jersey.

Crowlers got their start at Oskar Blues Brewery in Colorado, as a way to deliver growler-sized brews without compromising their canned quality. Since it’s creation, the Ball Packaging prototype has begun selling to breweries around the country, but Roger Wilco in Pennsauken has become the first liquor store in the state to sell Crowler-packed craft beers.

Available in the 32 oz. size, you can get your fill from any of their can varieties, with current options including Carton’s Red Eye Return, Riverhorse’s Winter Freeze, and Clown Shoes’ Pecan Pie Porter.

Up until now, Village Idiot Brewing Company in Mount Holly was one of the only spots in the tri-state area to offer Crowler fills. And while growlers still may be popular, the Crowler has gained a reputation for keeping beers fresher for longer, and being easier to transport and store. While the traditional glass growler reaches peak freshness within the first 48 hours of tapping, Crowlers can last up to two weeks in the fridge without worry. With these newfound inventions picking up steam, expect to find a few more near you soon.
