I Do Reckon I'll Be Back to Percy Street

I Do Reckon I'll Be Back to Percy Street

As I was walking by the Whole Foods on 10th and South, and the smell of ribs flooded the air. I followed the smell onto Percy Street and right into the Percy Street Barbecue for Happy Hour.

This particular Monday Happy Hour, they featured a $3 Victory Prima Pils (originally $5). The beer was served in a mason jar, adding that special something that led . Also on Mondays at Percy Street BBQ it’s all you can eat rib night! For $23 you get unlimited ribs, pinto beans, collard greens, and cornbread. Mm Mm Mm.

Though there were a number of other tasy-sounding options, my friend and I ordered the ribs, mac and cheese, and BBQ fries. The entrees were served on silver trays and I kind of felt like I was at an indoor picnic. The waiter brought us our own jug of water for the table and our own personal paper towel roll which he attached to the table. The ribs were pretty good and you had your selection of original, hot, or sweet tangy sauce. While these were delicious, the mac and cheese and the BBQ fries really made my visit to Percy Street worthwhile. The mac and cheese was delightfully cheesy and was topped with bread crumbs. The BBQ fries had an Old Bay Seasoning and were made with cheese and brisket. I pride myself on being a cheese fries connoisseur, and these were the most eclectic fries I’ve ever tasted.

Lots of tables and high ceilings made it very spacious. Every part of Percy Street played to its Texas-barbeque theme. Picnic-like tables lined the windows, there were wood floors, red and brown leather seats, and wine jug lights lit the bar. Even the drink selection played to their theme. There was a good selection of whiskey, but an even more interesting selection of cocktails. What stood out as my favorite among them was their “Hillbilly Gatorade”. This consisted of Miller Hi-Life, pickle juice, and old faithful BBQ sauce. How classy!

I would definitely come back to Percy Street for their barbecue again. It really made me feel like I was in the south. The food and drinks were so filling that I couldn’t even finish everything (which was a first for me). I ate and drank so much that I really thought I would need to be rolled out of there.
