Obama Drinks Guinness In Four Sips

Being commander and chief of one of the world’s largest super powers is a daunting task. Any man or woman will tell you there’s not much more refreshing and relaxing than getting to enjoy a pint of your favorite brew when leisure time presents itself. Which for the President of the U.S.A., isn’t very often.

It’s been known that our fearless leader enjoys a beer from time to time. Last year, after coughing up a case of Molson Canadian in a lost hockey bet to the Canadian prime minister, he also threw in a case of his personal favorite, Yuengling Lager. President Obama also enjoyed a homebrewed “Honey Ale” during this past Superbowl, alongside his favorite lager and a pale ale from Green Bay’s Winterland Brewery.

Most recently, however, he has made the headlines imbibing what is arguably the world’s favorite (or most popular) stout, Guinness. In a recent trip to Ireland, President Obama (who has distant Irish routes) knocked back a glass in a Moneygall pub in just four sips. He was careful to wait for the beer to settle as to not ruin the experience, remarking afterwards that it was delicious.

The beer was delivered by none other than master brewer Fergal Murray and has some experts saying that Guinness should just shut down advertising expenses for the rest of the year. What better way to sell your product than having the President of the U.S.A. finish a pint of your stout in four gulps and call it delicious? Between Obama and a visit from Queen Elizabeth a few weeks before, the Dublin Chamber of Commerce estimates that the two visits could net around 150 million Euros in advertising.

How does Obama stand up to former presidential beer enthusiasts? According to previous trips to Ireland by past U.S. presidents, pretty well. In comparison, Clinton finished just half a pint, and George Bush drinks only non-alcoholic beer.
