All Aboard the Craft Beer Express, March 10
Oftentimes, pub crawls are sad affairs – a bunch of sloppy sippers tripping over each other to seek out the next cheap brew – but this is something entirely different. The semi-annual Craft Beer Express is a ticketed tour of some of the cities best beer bars, complete with regularly scheduled shuttle buses, in-depth tasting events and more.
Working from the Fishtown counter-clockwise around the city, this winter's route includes Kraftwork, Johnny Brenda's, Standard Tap, The Institute, Bishop's Collar, Kite & Key, Jose Pistola's, Sidecar Bar, P.O.P.E., Devil's Den, Brauhaus Schmitz and the Race Street Cafe. Select the bar where you'd like to start your adventure and purchase a $10 bracelet (online or at the pub itself), and from 11 AM–9 PM this Saturday, March 10, you can ride the bus all day long.
Drinks are pay-as-you-go, but expect some interesting lineups on taps at participating taverns: Kraftwork will host Goose Island goodies, Standard Tap wants to wake you up with a "big wood weekend," Firestone Walker fun awaits at Kite & Key, and Brauhaus Schmitz is touting 10 German beers that have never been poured before in Philadelphia.
Because tickets are required, you can expect crowds to be a manageable size. After all, what's a better way to spend a Saturday than tossing back great craft brews at your favorite bar? Doing it at a dozen of them!
