South Philly’s Pub on Passyunk East is throwing an official welcome party for their newly installed draft line, which will be dedicated solely to the beers of Brasserie d’Achouffe. The new tap comes with a special handle in the form of the Belgian brewery’s mascot, a happy-go-lucky, red-capped gnome. (You can see the gnome dancing around the brewery’s homepage in one of the least-annoying Flash animations we’ve ever encountered.)

Passyunk Avenue is now one of only three locations in the entire U.S. to host the rosy-cheeked, white-bearded dwarf tower. The POPE has carried bottles of La Chouffe – a very highly rated, strong Belgian Pale Ale – and its sister products before, and have had them very occasionally on draft. Starting today, one of them will always be available, fresh from the tap, in 10-oz. goblet pours that go for under $7.

How did the tavern earn such an honor? “Our Duvel rep selected us as a good location,” POPE bartender Tim Fisher told Drink Philly. “We’re just that great of a beer bar.” We wholeheartedly agree.
