If you’ve watched even a bit of TV over the past decade you probably know that “Red Bull gives you wings.” But can it make otherwise flightless contraptions air-worthy? That — and having a whole lot of silly fun — is the idea behind Red Bull Flugtag. The annual competition began in 1991 in Vienna, and is now held in over 35 cities around the world.
Flugtag means “flight day” in German, and the event challenges people to build homemade, human-power crafts and pilot them off a 30-foot deck, in the hopes of catching air. Anyone is free to submit an entry, but to gain admission, Red Bull must approve your design. Design is important, because the contest is judged not only on the distance of your craft’s flight, but its creativity and the team’s showmanship as well.
We’re excited to announce Drink Philly will competing in the Philadelphia 2012 Red Bull Flugtag event. We were honored to be accepted, and are looking forward to zooming off the Camden ramp and sailing high above the Delaware River (for a brief moment). In what will we be making this endeavor? We present to you, THE HINDENFIRKIN!
