This fermented hemp beverage was created in 1996, when Germany officially authorized the cultivation of "fibre hemp." Dupetit Natural Products was already working with hemp for its specialty foods, perfume and organic cosmetic line. While sipping on some German ales, it occurred to the company, “why not to try to see how hemp tastes as a substitute for hops?” It worked pretty well, and this secret mix of organic barley, malt, hops and hemp was concocted to bring us cannabis beer (4.8% ABV).
