American Craft Beer Week 2013, May 13-19
While Philadelphia may have one of the best and biggest local beer weeks in all the land, you don’t have to wait until June for an extended celebration of great brew. May 13–19 is American Craft Beer Week, a nationwide happening organized by the Brewers Association. Here in Philly, we at Drink Philly have lined up drink deals and special events across the city to toast and celebrate independent U.S. brewers.
All week long you’ll find 5–7 PM happy hour specials of $3 American craft drafts at various bars across town (check the list below). This is your chance to taste the best beer this country has to offer at seriously discounted prices. Additionally, read on to find out about three very special events.
Flying Dog Brewing Company Brew & Chew at Cavanaugh’s Rittenhouse
Wednesday, May 15, 7–9 PM
Cavanaugh’s Rittenhouse will dedicate its monthly Brew & Chew to the beers of Flying Dog Brewing Co. For $25 (along with an RSVP here), you’ll sample as much as you want of four different labels from this Maryland-based brewery. Plus, the drinks will be paired with four different hors d’oeuvres and the sips and eats will flow for the entire two-hour event.
Neshimany Creek Beer Dinner at Revolution House Roof Deck
Wednesday, May 15, 7 PM
The terrace at Revolution House is one of the most beautiful spots in Old City, and on Wednesday, May 15, you can take in the late spring evening with a dose of local beer. Neshaminy Creek Brewing is Bucks County’s first production brewhouse. These unfiltered, unpasteurized beers are a labor of love — just take it from head brewer Jeremy Myers: "I live, eat, sleep, and die beer just like anyone that would want to work long hours for low pay…"
Neshaminy sales manager Pat Pie will be in the house, ready to chat about all the beers being served and talk about what goes on at the brewery. To go along with the five-course dinner on the deck, you'll enjoy five different beers. Check out the pairings here, and call for reservations (215-625-4566).
Old Forge and Neshiminay Creek Brewing Night at Perch Pub
Thursday, May 16, 7–10 PM
Perch Pub will be tapping special beers by local favorite, Old Forge Brewing Company. They will have four taps offering styles of beer unique to only American craft beer, such as Endless Summer, Overbite IPA, Montour Common, and Unruly Rye. And Neshiminay Creek Brewing Co is crashing the party and will be pouring Trauger Pils, County Line IPA, Tribute Tripel, and Leon Imperial Stout. Reps will be on hand from each brewery to talk about their beers and answer questions. More details here.
