Get Schooled on Firestone Walker at Strangelove's, Tues., Dec. 3
Class reconvenes at 5 PM on Tuesday, December 3 for Stangelove’s Beer School. Shortly after debuting the critically-acclaimed restaurant and veritable academy for better beer connoisseurship late last summer, owners Brendan Hartranft and Leigh Maida decided to open enrollment to their ongoing series of hands-on beer seminars to the general drinking public.
The two originally devised the programs to help keep the staff there and their other establishments (Memphis Taproom, Resurrection Ale House, and Local 44) up to snuff on the latest brews going on the draft lists.
December’s coursework will cover Firestone Walker Brewing Co. Several of the award-winning California brewery’s seasonal releases will be introduced and discussed. But don’t worry, the evening won’t be all pencils, books and teachers’ dirty looks. And that’s the best part of going to Beer School. After all the blah-de-blah-blah, you get to drink the lesson plan.
Though originally free, Strangelove’s Beer School now requires a donation. Said donation is “Pay What You Want.” But that doesn’t mean you can get in with simply forking over a one dollar bill. You’re going to have to dig a little deeper than that, Scrooge. All proceeds benefit Share Our Strength, which aims to end childhood hunger in here in Philly, as well as the rest of the country.
