Throwback Monday: Dock Street Takes Over at City Tap House Logan
Back in the days when craft beer was known simply as microbrew and the the number of bars in Philly serving it could be counted on one hand, Dock Street founder Rosemarie Certo was producing small-batches of suds that were so good that the late-great Michael Jackson — that’s the Beer Hunter, not the King of Pop — wrote fondly of them in several of his influential works.
This was long before the the trailblazing brewery had relocated to its current location near Cedar Park at 50th Street and Baltimore Avenue. Back then, it was in the space that now houses the just opened City Tap House Logan.
On Monday, November 10, the brand new Tap House will celebrate its opening with a salute to Dock Street, its legacy and some of the pioneers who helped pave the way for the city’s thriving craft beer movement while employed there. They include Chris LaPierre from Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant, Tim Roberts, Head Brewer from Yards Brewing Company and onetime Dock Street brewer Eric Savage, who now owns Helix Motorsports.
From 6–8 PM, Certo and partners Marilyn Candeloro and Sasha Certo-Ware will be on hand as Dock Street brews flow from the taps. In addition to some classics and some more recent creations, To Helles and Back, a special beer brewed last summer by LaPierre, Roberts and Savage will be available.
