Rum Workout: DonQ Mojito Olympics at Rum Bar
Starting October 3, area bartenders will be gathering each Monday at Rum Bar in Rittenhouse to do some heavy lifting in the 4th annual DonQ Mojito Olympics. Originally scheduled to be part of Rum on the River this summer, the event had to be scrapped when the venue (the Philadelphia Belle riverboat) suddenly closed operations. Not one to be easily discouraged, Rum Bar proprietor Adam Kanter rescheduled the cocktail competition and extended it to take place over the entire month.
On the first three Mondays (October 3, 10 and 17), cocktail crafters from Mixto, Alma de Cuba, Positano Coast, Franklin Mortgage & Investment Co. and Rum Bar will sling DonQ in a battle to come to win events titled “Fastest Muddle,” “Mystery Bin,” and “Best in Show.” The winner from each of those evenings will return on October 24 for the finals, where they’ll shake, pour and slug it out to earn $300 in restaurant gift certificates and the right to claim they make the best mojito in Philadelphia.
