Frankford Hall Oktoberfest
Oktoberfest may already be over in Munich, but here in Philly, Stephen Starr’s Frankford Hall is keeping the spirit alive with a week full of festive beer events. The fishtown beer garden is offering happy hour pricing every evening through Friday, as well as special events and games.
Tonight, October 11, arrive by 6:30 PM to sign up for the Oktoberfest Ping Pong Tournament (a long-standing German tradition, we hear). On Wednesday night, nine breweries will go head-to-head in a Festbier Face-Off. Starting at 7 PM, judges will vote on the merits of Oktoberfest offerings from Victory, Stoudts, Flying Fish, Sly Fox, Spaten, Wiehenstephan, Harpoon, Dark Horse and Sprecher. Reps from each brewery will be in attendance, and the winning outfit gets a permanent tap at Frankford Hall.
Thursday, October 13, brings the Beer Olympics. Try your hand at keg bowling, the can toss, the beer stein carrying contest and more, to win prizes and score a year’s worth of bragging rights. The fun culminates with Saturday’s live oom-pah band and special guest Mayor Michael Nutter, who will tap a keg for the party at 4 PM. The Ja Ja Jas will play from 1–4 PM and 6–9 PM, with German folk dancers taking the stage between sets. Make it a family affair so the kids can enjoy jugglers, magicians and a face painter as you sip and nosh on Teutonic classics, all day long.
