What to Drink at Design Philadelphia, Oct 13-23

Today brings the start of the seventh annual Design Philadelphia, the week-plus-long celebration of all things design-oriented. Over 150 events take place over the 11 days of the festival, and many of them include some kind of alcoholic libation. Check out our picks for a blueprint of well-designed drinking fun.

Friday, Oct 14

Alexis Bittar – Cocktails + Conversations: Three different jewelery collections for fall will be showcased, along with drinks that sparkle almost as much as the gems and baubles on display. Look for special offers on ornaments as you nibble on hors d’oevres and sip on spirits (5–8 PM; 241 Race St.; Free).

Poliform Open House: Tour the kitchens, closets and other haute furnishings at this coming-soon design shop while noshing on wine and cheese from Northern Italy (6–9 PM; 120 N. 3rd St.; Free).

Young Involved Philadelpha Showcase: The culmination of a two-week event series on getting young people involved in the city’s community will feature an appearance by Mayor Michael Nutter and an open bar, appetizers and music (6–9:30 PM; Gershman Y, 401 S. Broad St.; $15 or 2 for $20 in advance; $20 per person at the door).

Saturday, Oct 15

Cocktails @ 6: A celebration of vintage barware, including cocktail shakers, decanters, glassware and accessories at Old City shop More Than Old. Doors open at 2 PM, a food and drink tasting begins at 4 PM and the event continues through the evening. (2–8 PM; 144 N. 3rd St.; Free).

Live Glassblowing and Artisanal Spirits Tasting: Hudson Beach Glass will create vessels that will be used to offer special cocktail tastings, focusing on the effects of glass shape and size on flavor and enjoyment. Entry includes a glass to take home (6:30–8:30 PM; 26 S. Strawberry St.; $45).

Sunday, Oct 16

Monday, Oct 17
