What to Drink at Design Philadelphia, Oct 13-23
Today brings the start of the seventh annual Design Philadelphia, the week-plus-long celebration of all things design-oriented. Over 150 events take place over the 11 days of the festival, and many of them include some kind of alcoholic libation. Check out our picks for a blueprint of well-designed drinking fun.
Alexis Bittar – Cocktails + Conversations: Three different jewelery collections for fall will be showcased, along with drinks that sparkle almost as much as the gems and baubles on display. Look for special offers on ornaments as you nibble on hors d’oevres and sip on spirits (5–8 PM; 241 Race St.; Free).
Poliform Open House: Tour the kitchens, closets and other haute furnishings at this coming-soon design shop while noshing on wine and cheese from Northern Italy (6–9 PM; 120 N. 3rd St.; Free).
Young Involved Philadelpha Showcase: The culmination of a two-week event series on getting young people involved in the city’s community will feature an appearance by Mayor Michael Nutter and an open bar, appetizers and music (6–9:30 PM; Gershman Y, 401 S. Broad St.; $15 or 2 for $20 in advance; $20 per person at the door).

Cocktails @ 6: A celebration of vintage barware, including cocktail shakers, decanters, glassware and accessories at Old City shop More Than Old. Doors open at 2 PM, a food and drink tasting begins at 4 PM and the event continues through the evening. (2–8 PM; 144 N. 3rd St.; Free).
Live Glassblowing and Artisanal Spirits Tasting: Hudson Beach Glass will create vessels that will be used to offer special cocktail tastings, focusing on the effects of glass shape and size on flavor and enjoyment. Entry includes a glass to take home (6:30–8:30 PM; 26 S. Strawberry St.; $45).

Daroff Design Open House: Another evening of light refreshments while exploring great design. Get a peek at the design for three new hospitality projects in China, as well as Karen Daroff’s work at the Philadelphia Airport (5–8 PM; 2121 Market St.; Free).

Suds, Studs & Stories: Enjoy beer, wine and hors d’oeuvres while checking out highlights of diverse design firm UJMN’s projects in and around Philadelphia (5:30–7:30 PM; 718 Arch St., Ste 5N; Free).
Wednesday, Oct 19
Exploring the Interplay Between Fashion and Interior Design: Head to the Marketplace Design Center overlooking the Schuylkill for a panel discussion, preceded by a wine-and-cheese reception (5:30–8 PM; 2400 Market St.; $20 for members, $30 for non-members, $5 for students with ID, tickets).
An Evening with Antoine Roset: The Vice President of design studio Ligne Roset will be discussing the company’s 150 years and the future of contemporary furniture over wine, and cheese, with a raffle (6–8 PM; 4131 Main St., Mayayunk; Free).
Pompadour: Sip on cocktails at Moko Beauty Salon while celebrating the popular hair trend inspired by Madame de Pompadour. Models will show off various stylings, and the best guest pomp will receive a complimentary giftbag (6:30–9 PM; 55 N. 3rd St.; Free).
