Viewing Parties for Union's Second Playoff Game, Nov 4
Thursday evening, November 4, it’s do or die for Philadelphia’s MLS team, the Union. Several bars are holding viewing parties for the Union’s playoff battle, which takes place in Houston, at the home stadium for the Dynamo. Pub gatherings officially kick off at 8 PM and the game starts at 8:30. Expect giveaways of autographed items and other memorabilia throughout the night.
Soccer is unlike most American professional sports in its playoff format. Thursday’s game is the second leg in the first round, and after dropping the first leg, a simple Union win will not suffice. Here’s the run-down:
The Union need to win by two goals in order to avoid going into overtime and advance to the Eastern Conference Championship. A one-goal win would force two 15-minute overtime periods, followed by penalty kicks if the aggregate score is still tied after overtime. A Union loss or draw in Thursday’s second leg would end Philadelphia’s season.
So head out to Fado Irish Pub, Tir Na Nog, Brauhaus Schmitz or Kildare’s, and get ready to DOOP!
