Countdown to St. Patrick’s Day
What: Irish themed food and beer

The folks over at McGillin’s are getting antsy waiting for St. Patrick’s day, so this Friday (lasting all weekend) they are kicking off a Countdown to St. Patrick’s Day celebration. Come in Friday night for live Irish music from Patsy Whelan & Maxie Courtney; O’Hara’s Irish Stout will be on tap alongside O’Reilly’s Stout from Sly Fox and Milk Stout from Lancaster Brewing Co.. Irish cocktails will also be available as well as dishes, including: bangers and mash, shepherd’s pie, Irish lamb stew, and corned beef and cabbage – which will be available through to St. Patrick’s Day.

First Annual Bierfest
What: German Beerfest
Where: German Society of Pennsylvania, 611 Spring Garden St.

This Saturday, the German Society of Philadelphia is teaming up with Marnie Old (local drinks author) and the Philadelphia Roller Girls, to throw the first annual Bierfest. To celebrate a rich history of German brewing, 12 local breweries will be in-house pouring drafts; food tastings will also be available courtesy of Brauhaus Schmitz. The festival lasts from 1–5 PM, a $38 admission price gets you access to the event, including unlimited samples from all 12 breweries; for $25 extra you can experience a tasting seminar led by Marnie Old at 12 PM. Be sure to stick around until 4 PM for an expert panel on ‘The Future of Craft Lager - PA’s Leadership in Brewing German-Style’, which will include Drink Philly’s own Adam Schmidt.

Dogfish Head Weekend
What: Tap takeover and food pairing
Where: Devil’s Den, 11th & Ellsworth (South Philly)
When: Saturday 10:30 AM until Sunday 11:30 PM, February 25-26

All weekend Dogfish Head is taking over Devil’s Den with an impressive tap and bottle selection. Brews not being tapped until Sunday are: 2009 & 2010 World Wide Stout (15-20%), 2011 Red & White (Witbier, 10%), Buron Baton(Imperial IPA, 10%), Chateau Jiahu (10%) and whatever wasn’t polished off Saturday.
