Happy Hour Crawl: Fishtown |
Johnny Brenda’s (1201 Frankford Ave; 215-739-9684; Happy Hour 4-6 PM Mon.-Fri.)
Johnny Brenda’s keeps a vigilant watch over the corner of Frankford and Girard. Your first step inside will be greeted with dark red lighting, a vintage cigarette machine (which is fully operational), and a pool table. The pool table here draws some folks who know their angles, so that’s why we wanted to get your competitive nature going. Philadelphians hate losing, so stay true to the city with one of their 10 taps and 2 handpumps. All of their drafts are local brews, including seasonal varieties. Some of the brewing companies that are represented here include Flying Fish, Dock Street, Weyerbacher, Sly Fox, and Manayunk Brewing Company, but that’s just to rattle off a few. If keeping it local appeals to you, feel free to pick up a bag of Johnny Brenda’s coffee for the morning after.
If you need to just focus on a beer or their food (half priced raw bar during happy hour), pull up a leather stool and relax while the music plays. There are live shows in the back and upstairs, and occasionally a DJ spinning next to the main bar. Bands that have visited include Dr. Dog, Grizzly Bear, The Walkmen, with many more to come. Don’t let your guard down for too long if you aren’t on the table, though. Our next stop — right across the street — will get you going again.
