Philly Beer Week Is Back on at Varga Bar; Meet the Brewers from Perennial Ales and Voodoo Brewery at Perch Pub, Tues., June 3
Fire dealt Midtown Village hotspot Varga Bar a major Beer Week bummer on Sunday, just after it had wrapped up its annual block party festivities.
Thank the beer gods, no one was hurt when flames broke out, and all the special kegs lined up for the week’s celebrations were also spared. But the bar and restaurant suffered enough damage in the early morning blaze to knock it out of commission, and put some of its 20-plus Beer Week events in jeopardy. The good news is: City inspectors yesterday gave Varga the go-ahead to reopen, which means the good times it had on tap for Beer Week are back on. Tonight brings Da Claw with DuClaw with fun and games inspired by the claw arcade game from 4 - 7 PM, and later Sour Notes, wild and barrel aged beers from Neshaminy Creek Brewing from 7 - 10 PM.
Over at Perch Pub brewers from Perennial Ales and Voodoo Brewery will be on hand for a meet and greet and to talk a little about some of the amazing beers, rare ales, and one-offs being poured from 7 - 9 PM.
Beer Week Quizzo is happening at Bainbridge Street Barrel House with special beers and guests from Saint Somewhere and Intangible Ales from 7 PM - 12 AM.
Frankford Hall is getting its own custom-brewed beer courtesy of the good folks at Fegley's Brew Works. They will tap the first firkins of the stuff tonight from 7:30 PM - 2 AM.
Bierstube in Old City is hosting an evening of sour beers from The Bruery, Bullfrog, Brouwerij Bockor, Brouwerij Verhaeghe and more from 5 - 11 PM.
Oyster House turns over the taps to Vermont’s Long Trail for Happy Hour, which runs 5 - 7 PM.
Cheeseheads from Di Bruno Bros. are pairing their wares with some extraordinary beers at Brauhaus Schmitz from 6 - 8 PM.
And if you’re all beered-out already, Townsend barkeep Keith Raimondi is serving up beer cocktails at Bridget Foy’s from 6:30 - 9 PM.
